yspi main logo ERCPAs part of our strategic review in 2015 we identified certain counties as areas which has unusually high risk indicators for youth self-harm and suicide.

As a result we decided to start a new Development Programme to open a number of local Education Resource Centres in these counties which will provide specialist mental health awareness and recognition training for primary and secondary teachers from the county’s schools.  The centre will also be organising workshops around the county for parents and anyone who would like to find out more about mental health awareness and particularly youth suicide prevention.

The Education Resource Centre will be staffed by volunteers but the Centre will also provide a base for our highly trained Educational Facilitators as well as counsellors.

The  role of the Education Resource Centre will be to:

•     provide specialist mental health awareness and recognition training for primary and secondary teachers from the county’s schools;

•     organise local workshops for parents and anyone who would like to find out more about mental health awareness and particularly youth suicide prevention;

•     provide drop-in facilities for casual callers looking for support, information or just a chat;

•     provide a counselling referral service for parents concerned about their children’s behaviour;

•     provide a base for our schools facilitators and counsellors.
